Kath, Just wanted to drop a line to say that your write up for The World and the Jia Zhangke overview were completely awesome. Thank you for spotlighting Lim Giong and Zhao Tao.
I didn't even know there was a Lim Giong despite digging the soundtracks. And I am amazed by Zhao.
Thanks villainx. I totally appreciate it. I'm currently in a little bit of a lull as far as the blog goes; goes busy writing for some other things. I'll get back into it soon! Please stay posted!
As far as Lim Giong, check out "Insects Awaken." It's pretty mesmerizing! I love the Millennium Mambo soundtrack (almost as much as I love the film!)
I'm downloading Insects Awaken as I type. Haha, you make it sound like the Millennium Mambo soundtrack is easily attainable. (Though in NYC, I'm going to try to find it)
Have you ever heard of Subway Cinema (http://www.subwaycinema.com/)? I'm unaffiliated, except as a sometimes audience member, but sounds like it'd be up one of your alley (if you were in NY).
Also, the tune from 24 City sounds a little like the A Pure Person ish, it's a different song?
Shoot me an e-mail with your address (kathds100 at yahoo dot com) and I'll send you a gift.
Yeah, I have heard of Subway Cinema and have always envied the film programs they have; we used to have a similar organization here, but funding dried up and Asian film got a little more expensive to program.
Your right, the song in 24 City does sound a lot like "Pure Person" but it is a little different. 24 City is great, isn't it. I would like to review it, but feel like I need to see it again...
